The role of the teachers

In the display of a phenomenon within the school borders the teachers have a main role.

In general a teacher must:
● learn about the phenomenon in order to be more capable to recognize and stop it immediately and to further develop intervention programs and techniques for the emotional release
● do not ignore or underestimate whatever a child may have to say
● make direct and strict observations immediately after the event
● exploit the energy of the child who bullies into positive types of behavior
● develop activities related to the phenomenon (conversation, role-play, literature readings)
● create a positive climate in school
● protect the child who is bullied, any kind of explanations about the event are not to be requested from the child in front of the other children, but in a private conversation in order to try to absolve the child and to offer positive reinforcement.

Also:
● It is recommended to avoid penalizing of the event and the punishment of the child by expulsion from the school team because it is not effective.
● the climate in school should be of honesty so that such secrets not to be covered
● it is particularly important not to request the “reconciliation” between the child who is bullied and the child who bullies due to the fact that there is the danger of revictimization of one of the children and for the other to confirm his “power” and “domination”.
